24 years ago today, America was attacked.

24 hours ago, democracy was attacked again.

This time it wasn’t just one group acting against the U.S., it was a series of independent and brutal attacks that have once again, rocked our nation to its core.

In the last 48 hours, a political leader was assassinated, innocent children were injured at a school shooting, and an unsuspecting refugee, seeking refuge from the war in Ukraine, was murdered while bystanders stood by and did nothing.

What has happened to America? What has happened to the nation I hold so dear?

We watch as atrocities are committed against the innocent, the weak, and the strong alike and we do nothing. So what will we do? What can we do?

The answer is not found in gun control, political activism, or online arguments.

We only have one answer to attacks as violent as these:

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. – John 15:13

You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, – Matthew 5:43-44

As believers, we expect divisiveness and persecution, but we are not called to sit back and watch, nor are we called to go on a holy war. We are called to Love. Love our neighbors, our co-workers, those that disagree with us, those that hurt us, those that would destroy all we hold dear.

We do not sit idly by and twiddle our fingers, waiting for judgment day. We actively go out to those who hurt, the widows, the orphans, the refugees, the shunned, the rejected, and we LOVE them.

Our answers to the problems of this world are not found in hatred; they are found in love.

In these dark times, we have to love our enemies, we have to pray for those who persecute us, we have to share the joy that our Savior has given us, because it is our only option.

I am heartbroken at the state of my country. I woke up crying in a country that was not my own. I weep because of the pain my countrymen are experiencing.

The Church can no longer be divided. Christians can no longer sit idly. We have to Love, even when it is hard.
