While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he (Jesus) saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

-Matthew 4:18–22

Jesus called Simon Peter and his brother Andrew to follow him, and he promised them not riches or honor, nor fame or power, but that he would make them fishers of men. Immediately, without any hesitation, no pause of contemplation or consideration, they left their father IN THE BOAT and followed Jesus.

Over our Sabbath and Adventure Day, I found myself reflecting on the ministry opportunities I missed this past week simply because I hesitated, I overthought it, and I thought about what people would think of me. Simon and Andrew didn’t do this. Instead, despite what he might have thought, they left their dad based solely on the promise they would now be Fishers of Men. There was no other interaction between Jesus and the Sons of Thunder before this one. Yet, the brothers left immeditately!

This week, I’m living differently. Now, there is no hesitation — only faith.

Takeaway #3: Following Christ is following him, sometimes blindly, but must assuredly, without hesitation.
